In an active recruiting environment, when there is high demand for talent like we have experienced over the past 18 months, conventional wisdom is that compensation is the driver that attracts high performing professionals to "take the call". However, this is actually not so. More often than not, money is only one of the motivators. Instead, we have observed that most professionals want and expect challenging work, a path to growth and expansion of their role, working for decent people, an organization that is well respected, and a comfortable and attractive working environment. All of these elements are in the mix that impacts an individual's satisfaction with their job. When all of these are not present, it is then that the stage is set for consideration of new opportunities. Money doesn't buy happiness, even in the workplace.
