Increasingly, real estate investors and developers are focused on the healthcare industry, targeting the growing need for medical-office and related facilities. However, healthcare is a highly complex industry challenged by regulation, shrinking payment for services, multiple stakeholders and an ever-increasing demand for services. At the same time, healthcare executives are unimpressed with strong real estate skills only; they expect their development partners to have a thorough appreciation of the industry and its relative challenges as well as a deep understanding of its delivery and economics. Talent that stands up to the demands of this sector is scarce. At the same time, the need for professionals who have the dual skill set will grow significantly over the next decade as the Boomers flood the healthcare system. Here's the bottom line: Employers in the healthcare field, treat your hiring needs with a high degree of flexibility and creativity. Candidates: Don't underplay the depth and breadth of your talents or experience. Credits can be transferable-even to a complex and arcane industry sector.
