Over the past three months, the volume of job seekers has grown exponentially, reflecting cutbacks primarily in finance and in investment banking. In addition, the uncertain economic times and the freeze in deal flow are making those who are gainfully employed nervous that the other shoe may drop within their organization. As a result, we have seen a dramatic increase in communication from professionals looking to land a job or simply survey the landscape 'just in case.' In fact, there was a 42% increase in candidate registrations in the first quarter on the SelectLeaders job board, compared to the same period last year. However, during the same period, job postings were down almost 10% from a year ago. This is bad news for job seekers but good news for employers, who can pick and choose from a lot more talent.
